We spend the last 3 days of our Southwest and Southern California US trip in San Diego, one of my / our favourite US cities. Being very close to the Mexican border it has a lot of influence from Mexico. Its also a huge US Navy base (one of the biggest) - we saw eg a Hangar-ship there. We went to the Coronado Island, Balboa Park, Gaslight District and spend few hours at the Mission beach jumping in the chilled pacific sea with all the surfers there.
Yesterday night we went to the San Diego old town where there happened to be a Mexican (Cinco de Mayo) festival with live music and dancing.
It’s been an amazing journey where we have experienced some extraordinary beautiful parts of the US with extreme diversity: Big busy cities, deserts, deep canyons, wild rivers, forests, lakes, snow-capped mountains & pacific beaches. And even though USA is very homogeneous in many ways (eg regarding language), we have seen quite big cultural and lifestyle differences and huge diversity - from the crazy gambling and shows in Las Vegas to the strict Mormon Utah and the relaxed Southern California. We are all full of experiences and ready to go back home :)
