Yesterday we went to the third US national park on our Nevada-Arizona-Utah road trip : The Zion National Park, around 1h drive from our base, Kanab.
Standing at the intersection of three major ecosystems – the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau, and the Great Basin – the iconic Zion National Park is a unique experience. The highlight is an expansive canyon, averaging 600+ meters deep. Zion is full of sandstone cliffs, steep mountain walls, and natural arches. The area is home to one of the largest natural arches in the world, Kolob Arch.
The main canyon with many hikes is “car free”, and only accessible, from the parking areas at the visitor center, by shuttle buses that stop at 9 different places from where different hiking trails starts (of varying difficulty).
We did two great smaller hikes: The River Side walk at the end of the canyon and the Grotto and Emerald Pools trail hike leading up to several waterfalls and outlook points.
As with the other parks we visited, everything very well organised and clean as it’s a protected park.
